A Modbus TCP data logger that knows when it is wrong
Meters, relays, inverters and BMS gateways still speak Modbus. Vault reads them efficiently, decodes every word order, and marks a dead device as a gap instead of logging its last value forever.
Import the register map you already have
Every device comes with a register list. Put it in a CSV with the address, type, word order and scaling, and Vault imports it. It then plans block reads of up to 125 registers so a meter with 80 values costs a handful of requests, not 80.
- Every common type. 16, 32 and 64-bit integers, floats and doubles, bits from registers, coils and discrete inputs.
- All four word orders. ABCD, BADC, CDAB and DCBA, set per signal, because devices disagree.
- Exact scaling. Scale and offset applied without float rounding surprises.

Telling a quiet device from a dead one
Modbus has no subscriptions and no quality codes, so a logger has to work out for itself when the data stopped being true.
- Timeouts and exceptions
- A timeout, a Modbus exception or a closed connection each give the affected signals their own bad quality, so the record shows what kind of failure it was.
- Heartbeats
- Point Vault at a counter or watchdog register and it marks the device's data stale when the counter stops moving, even if the device keeps answering.
- Poll groups
- Fast and slow groups per device, so a 100 ms frequency signal and a once-a-minute energy counter do not share a scan rate.
- Unit IDs and gateways
- Several unit IDs behind one Modbus TCP gateway, each with its own map and failure handling.
